Movie: The Mother (2003)
Starring: Daniel Greg, Anne Reid, Anna Wilson-Jones, Steven Mackintosh
Genres: Romance, English, set in UK
Review: I actually caught this during a midnight non-sleep attack. The film follows a middle aged mum (Anne Reid) who has to deal with her husbands death, by moving in with her evil, ungrateful children temporarily. The actual movie is very crisp. All of the shots are full, and in a slight colorless environment. Both the children (grown children) have more issues that the film needed. The story makes you hopeful for the mother when she finds what she thinks is love in a very younger man who is also doing someone close to her. Romance story with a very strange twist. I feel like the movie could have been better without the madness of the unneeded characters. The film makes you wonder if all children are that evil, unforgiving, and selfish when it comes to there parents needs. I cheered on May (Anne Reid) the entire movie, but it wasn't enough to make me love it.

amores perros
Movie: Amores Perros (2000)
Starring: Gael Garcia Bernal, Goya Toledo, Marco Perez, Alvaro GuerreroGenres: Spanish; English or French subtitles Drama
Review: This movie is a must see, must have! The Spanish cultural is so rich, and hypnotizing in this film that every character is loved in some way. The film follows 3 lead characters, and their lives that all connect in one horrible accident. At first sight the movie seems to move fast and out of sequence, but every tell will connect and make one uniformed story. The actors all did a amazing job. There is love, death, forgiveness, hatred, and regret scooped up in one movie that will keep you glued to the tv until it is over. I would not recommend this be a family movie night watch. There is violence and blood throughout this film. It is for a mature adult that loves culture, and real life stories.

Note: Gael Garica Bernal is a wonderfully under rated actor. Check out: Motorcycle Diaries

Before the Rains, 2008

Movie: Before the Rains (2008)
Starring: Linus Roache, Rahul Bose, Nandita Das, Jennifer Ehle
Genres: English
Review: The movie starts off in a beautiful jungle in southern India and keeps your attention to the credits roll. Set in 1930's but other than the clothing you'd never know. Within the first 10 minutes of the movie you think it'll be a love story, but boy are you wrong. Rahul Bose (TK) takes you on a crazy journey that you keep asking yourself why is he doing all this? While Nandita Das (Sajani) who's beauty is unnerving keeps you hoping she'll get what she wants. It is almost a coming of age movie in the sense that TK actually finds himself through death, heartbreak, betrayal, and exile. This movie is a MUST see. Everything about it is captivating and after you've watched it the story will never leave your heart.

Caramel 2008
Movie: Caramel (2008)
Starring: Nadine Labaki, Adel Karam, Ismail Antar, Yasmine Elmasri, Aziza Semaan
Genres: Foreign (France)
Review: The movie revolves around five woman who all have completely different lives, but seem to always meet in the middle of their friendship. The leading character is a classic case woman... in love with a married man. Then there is a beautiful Muslim girl who is not a virgin any longer, but can not reveal it to her soon to be husband. There is the usual older friend who can not let go of her youth, and now the new friend... the not out yet lesbian. Even though we have seen these characters before, they are intriguing to watch, and you do not even notice the subtitles, because the movie pulls you in. All of the women are beautiful and easy to follow; even if you don't speak the language. The movie is centered around love, and it's found in different ways with each of them. It is a great afternoon watch, with a glass of wine, and a sweet piece of caramel.
